Silicon consumption to stay weak in short term

‍‍Consumption of chemical-grade silicon is likely to remain sluggish in the short term given low operation rates across organosilicon plants.

This weak demand depressed silicon plants production enthusiasm. Few plants in Baoshan and Dehong in Yunnan province, Aba and Leshan in Sichuan province have resumed production as electricity charges in some areas have not been adjusted for the rainy season. Lots of plants also undertook maintenance works on their furnaces.

Chemical-grade silicon 421# traded at 14,300-14,800CNY/MT in Kunming, Yunnan province on Tuesday May 22.
