The price spread between high- and low- grade silicon metal narrowed as poor consumption weighed on prices of high-grade metallurgical silicon as of Tuesday May 28th.

Sufficient supplies also reduced prices of high-quality silicon in long-term contracts. Prices of higher-grade 3303# silicon at 11,600-11,700 CNY/MT in Kunming on May 28th, down 50 CNY/MT from the previous day.

Prices of lower-grade silicon, such as 441# product, were robust as market concerns grew on lower supplies after hydropower shortages in the dry season caused production cuts and extended suspension in Yunnan.

As of Tuesday May 28th, prices of 441# silicon stood at 11,400-11,500 CNY/MT in Kunming, flat from May 27th, but up some 100 CNY/MT from a week ago. Its price spread with 3303# silicon narrowed to some 100 CNY/MT as of May 28th.
